We are finalizing the new headquarters of the Gaspar de Portolà Foundation, in Sant Feliu de Llobregat
The Gaspar de Portolà Foundation started with an exciting project in 1989 as a special work center that facilitates the social and work integration of people with intellectual disabilities. In October 2019, at GMG we celebrated the awarding of the ideas competition to build the foundation’s new headquarters in Sant Feliu de Llobregat and two years later, last October, we handed over the building completed at the Foundation. The new building occupies an industrial plot in Sant Feliu de Llobregat of 4,500 m2 divided into two volumes: one for more industrial use to cover the needs of external gardening and cleaning services, heavy and light handling, storage and docks of charge; and a second volume with a more administrative use that contains the reception with a showroom – shop, the tailoring workshop, the administration offices, the changing rooms, the services and the office. Both built volumes are linked by a large central ramp that connects the three floors and whose purpose is to facilitate the circulation of all workers by avoiding stairs and elevators. The structure is made of prefabricated concrete and we have planned a possible extension of between 1,100 m2 and 2,800 m2 which should be completed in less than 10 years if the current growth rates of the foundation are maintained. The building, despite being an industrial use, is energy efficient and will have a photovoltaic energy installation on the roof capable of supplying 60% of its electricity demand. At GMG we are excited to develop and make any assignment a reality, but being able to work on a project like this, focused on the social side and sustainability, has been a privilege. We thank the entire team of the Portolà Foundation for the trust placed in GMG to develop its project, especially its founder and president, Mrs. Teresa Giralt Yglesias, who more than 30 years ago promoted an idea that currently occupies more than 100 people. We also thank the TRT team for the excellent Project Management work they have carried out, allowing the building to be delivered according to schedule and without any financial deviation.
