Strategies for the rehabilitation of the houses in the old town of Artés

Last June, the study “Strategies for the definition of the state of conservation and rehabilitation of the houses in the old town of Artés” was delivered, drawn up by GMG on behalf of the Diputació de Barcelona. The work analyzes in depth the rehabilitation needs of the buildings in this part of the town of Artés based on the different sources of information available and exhaustive field work, as well as interviews with its inhabitants. All this data has been processed using a geographic information system that has facilitated the diagnosis, and based on this, the definition of the strategies to follow in order to promote the rehabilitation of this area. The old town is the densest area of the municipality of Artés, with the residential park being around 70 years old, and much of it in a poor state of preservation. Housing prices are low, largely due to the need for rehabilitation. In the last twenty years, the aging of the population has doubled, and currently the population of the old town has an average age of 46. The actions proposed with the aim of improving the conditions of the buildings are the delimitation of seven conservation and rehabilitation areas, the granting of grants, and the promotion of urban farming. Complementary to this strategy, others aimed at improving the accessibility and quality of public space are also proposed and others focused on revitalizing the old town at an economic and social level are also being proposed. We understand that by acting simultaneously from these three points of view, a substantial transformation and improvement of the old town can be achieved.
