GMG in Tozal de Guara and Aneto

GMG 20/07/23

This newsletter comes to us with two peaks. We climbed the Tozal de Guara last April 21. With its 2,077 meters it is the highest peak of the Sierra de Guara. Although not remarkable for its height, its ascent is quite a demanding route, as the starting point is only 800 m above sea level and there is a positive difference in altitude of 1,355 m with a total of 21 km of walking. Once at the top, the views over the Aragonese Pyrenees are exceptional. As a reward for the walk, the next day we visited the architecture of the wineries of the Somontano region, Laus, Otto Bestué and Sommos, accompanying the visits with some wine tastings. We climbed Aneto, the king of the Pyrenees, once more on June 4. Since we had to avoid a weather forecast that announced storms from 2:00 p.m., we had a brave morning. We left Benasque at 2:45 a.m. with the intention of reaching the summit at 10:00 a.m. Soon we stepped on a pile of recently fallen snow and we had very good weather that allowed us to enjoy an emotional day. This outing was in memory of our friend Santi Miralda, passionate about the mountain who left us last November 7. So we gathered a group of his friends with the aim of accompanying his little son to the highest peak of the Pyrenees and thus fulfilling a promise he had been keeping. Santi, we’ll see you up there and in the meantime at GMG we’ll keep climbing mountains!

We work for sustainability, to mitigate climate change, and to leave a better world for future generations.
